I ate pizza for dinner tonight....at midnight.

Oliver had carrots for dinner...at a more conservative hour.

Then he spit them up all over my last pair of clean pants. I don't really mind though. I needed a good reason to tackle the laundry anyway.

Today was a beautiful day...and I'm not talking about the weather.

Today was a day when opportunities were found in the least likely places at the least likely of times.

I feel like a fire was ignited somewhere deep inside me where so long I have felt lost and cold...depressed.

Today, my ambition reignited and my hope restored, I saw clearly the hand of the Lord in my life.

It was exquisite

From the Pulpit

Every Sunday I sit in Sacrament Meeting and try...

to sit reverently, listen attentively, learn something new, and manage to keep my six month old occupied while making sure that the hem of my skirt is sitting appropriately.

Mostly I fail...

The worst part is that very often, the person giving the talk will say something that catches me completely off guard, and then I am distracted for the rest of the meeting...

Like that one time when she used the word "Skanky,"

Or last week when he quoted Captain Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Caribbean...accent and all,

And today when, though in context, he said "That doesn't mean we need to be walking around naked or anything,"

Hmm. No wonder sometimes I am irreverent

Today! Today!

Today is your Birthday!

I like you...

That's why I made you cool open faced roast beef sandwich things for dinner that I made up on the spot because I didn't feel like making or eating French Dip sandwiches like you requested...

That could also be why I considered making you fold your own laundry, then changed my mind.

And maybe my voluntary effort towards all diaper and early morning Oliver duties today has something to do with it.

And don't forget how you got three full meals today...instead having to scavenge for food for yourself.

And I did all of your dishes.

And tried really hard not to nag.

Soon I will make you a Razzleberry Pie to celebrate the beginning of your 26th year...well, I'll just turn on the oven and toss it in actually, but I digress...

I love you madly! I hope you have found this anniversary of the day of your birth to be a splendid one, and I wish you a happy year to come.

PS: This photo of you still makes me laugh.

The Story of Jesse's Life: Confucius Style

"People who live in glass houses...should practice abstinence."
Thank you Jesse for your wisdom and insight.

Last evening's game night with Bobulous and Carlsbad was SUPER!
We are a funny bunch, that's all.

I need to clean the house.

Last night we were laying in bed and Jesse made a reference to the mess our apartment had become. I wasn't offended because, well, it's true.

I said, "You're right. So get ready because the clean-up-the-house effort begins tomorrow."

and he replied, "Awesome! I work tomorrow..."

So I said, "Get ready because the clean-up-the-house effort begins on Saturday."

and he replied "Great! I work on Saturday..."

The exchange was repeated twice more for Sunday and Monday.

Then I realized that I could not wait until Tuesday to clean the house...we were going to lose Oliver in one of the piles if I didn't take care of it...I'd have to just do it myself.

"Self," I said, "Get ready because the clean-up-the-house effort begins tomorrow."

I groaned to myself, rolled over and went to sleep.

Today I walked in the door after my office hours, looked around and thought, "Time to clean up the house."

And then I:

...played with Oliver J.

...remembered that it was time to clean the house.

...and watched an episode of Lost.

...remembered I was supposed to be cleaning.

...and got on the computer.

...Facebook, Gmail. Woot, Pandora, Etsy, Scholastic book orders and Blogger later...

I'm proofreading this post thinking, "I probably should be cleaning my house."

It's not like I'm avoiding it or anything...

Resolute!

Welcome 2011!

This year I am looking forward to:
  • No ponytails on weekdays
  • At least 30 minutes of exercise everyday
  • An entry per day in my spiffy new journal
  • Creating at least one new goal to improve my life every three months (they say it takes 90 days to form a habit)

Happy new year my friendlies!
