Last Saturday was moving day; it went supremely well thanks to my family and a couple of awesome friends...

Saturday was also the Scandinavian Day Festival here in town; that means delicious turkey for lunch...

To get the turkey, you have to stand in a very long line.

At eight months pregnant, directly following a moving escapade, my ankles weren't in the mood to stand in a long line...call me lazy...so Heather and I sat in the grass next to the line and tickled Andre.

I looked up at my parents standing in the line and thought:

Ever since the day they had children, they have been "Standing in Line" for us...Doing all the hard work for us that we couldn't do for ourselves...or that we were just too tired for.

They have always done so with love, but have not always been met with the appreciation that was deserved.

Then I realized that in less than a month, Jesse and I will be a part of the "Standing in Line" crowd-a lifetime of serving our children...Standing in long lines and going the extra mile just feed our children an overpriced turkey lunch at a small town heritage festival.

I just hope that we can handle our new job with the grace that our own parents have portrayed. We certainly have great examples to follow!

The Story of Jesse's Life: Trees

Last night Jesse and I were spending time with friends and the subject of knuckle/body part cracking came up...

which I think is disgusting.

but that's just me.

Jesse-The-Story-Teller started talking about "This One Time in High School" when he was trying to be cool and crack his neck, but instead of feeling good, it hurt...

all I heard was the part about cracking his neck being cool...so I asked him:

"You thought cracking body parts was cool?"

To which he replied (without really thinking about what he was saying):

"Hey! When I was in high school I thought punching trees was cool!"

I lost it...Thought it was hilarious...Laughed so hard I thought my water would break! (maybe you just had to be there...or you just had to be me)

It was the subject matter of my jokes for the rest of the night...I couldn't help it.

He took it very well.

LOVE him!

A Sweet Surprise

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a comment from my favorite Marie friend. Marie has become a geneology guru in recent years and now blogs about her geneology reasearch triumphs and findings on her blog GreatGreats.

Though my blog is not a geneology blog, Marie nominated These Small Hours as worthy to recieve the "Ancestor Approved" award saying,

"...not really a geneology blog, but her grandparents treasure it and so do I; it
is so well written and will be a treasure to her descendants"

This made my day! My grandparents are my the biggest and most supportive fans...they show it to anyone they think might be interested, which is how Marie found it. And for Marie to take time to read and make such sweet and supportive comments has been so fun for me.

I appreciate the thoughtfulness of this award and have launched a full investigation of the geneology blog world so that I can get in on the action...not to change my blog style, but to learn about other's who are finding success and how. Though my blogging time has been significantly shortened in the past few weeks due to the end of the semester rush, I'm looking forward to May and June when I will be spending time perusing at least the eight other blogs that Marie recognized.

It truly is inspiring to read geneology blogs. The writers work so hard to discover their history and share it with others...its almost overwhelming. Head to Marie's blog to see what I mean and enjoy meeting her Great Greats.

Let's Go Fly A Kite?

I thought I might fly my kite today so I gave it a try.

However...

My kite conducted a very brief discussion with the wind, and they both informed me that today was not the day.

I was significantly disgruntled.

Pass the Moo-Juice Please!

Last month, Jesse and I polished off some milk...

a lot milk....

and by "a lot" I may or may not be meaning nine and a half gallons of milk...

OK, mostly it was just me drinking the milk...in fact, I do believe that I was experiencing a month long, pregnancy induced craving for moo juice.

I wanted it so badly that periodically, I placed a ban on milk for anyone in the house whose name did not start with a "D" and end with an "ella".

I didn't feel like sharing, that's all.

Jesse ignored me and drank some milk anyway-which was fine-because deep down past my crazy hormones and "middle child" syndrome, I know it was wrong of me to refuse my husband his right to all of the items in the fridge

...well, except for the juice, and the ice cream, oh! and the hummus...

those are all strictly mine!

But I digress

This month I started off by switching from 2% to 1%. I can't tell the difference, and if I'm going to continue to consume copious amounts of milk, maybe I should try a lower fat content...I couldn't hurt right?
